PROJECT ONE:
Perspective & Watercolor
Students were taught about perspective and then given lessons in the use of watercolor. They had the opportunity to practice and apply their knowledge surrounding the theme of creating an attic space. Students had to be mindful of fore, middle, and background space - placing a minimum of at least 20 items in their scene - creating a story and making the composition personable. Students had to use water as a tool making translucent layers of color while seeing their black-line. Students were taught how to remove heavily applied paint as well as about brushstrokes.
PROJECT TWO -
Collaboration Meets Design
Students had to really listen to instructions so their works would connect to one another. Doing the design part of the assignment was a bit like patting your head while rubbing your tummy - students had to think across their randomly drawn design and make sure they adhered to the specifications of the color selections. Students got a little bit of a taste, of how their actions affected the next person - hopefully positively as their actions determined what happened with the surrounding pieces ... Some focused, others talked... most got the project completed.
Now, the backdrop is set for their self portraits... But first students get to draw Mr. Harries.
